We left the wedding and headed to Grand Junction...our vacation has begun! We left on Saturday morning enroute to Salt Lake City. We stopped for lunch and fun in Price. We checked into our hotel and then went to Bev & Steve's to swim in their pool and visit.
After lunch at Dairy Queen, we drove up Rock Creek Canyon to Camp Val Verde for the
wedding of Mimi and Greg. It was the most beautiful setting. Jamie had fun
playing with sticks in the creek and even found a mud puddle that he couldn't resist. The ceremony ended before the afternoon rain came in. We left before the
reception so don't know if they got wet or not.
Stampede is a big deal in Monte Vista every year...it is a huge rodeo combined with a carnival, a concert
(usually a country artist that I don't
know - this year it was Blake Shelton) and parades every morning. The parades are huge with lots of floats, bands, and a variety of
entertainment and the parade route goes west on Hwy 160 then back to the east on 3rd Avenue. Jamie loves parades because they hand out candy and, because he was the only kid on our side of the block, he made quite a haul.
We drove in rain from the NM border to Santa Fe. It was raining so hard near Raton that we could hardly see the road.
Shelby & Jamie had a blast on the Tram and on the top of Sandia Peak.

Jamie was all smiles & giggles on the ride back to Grandma's house.
Saturday, we went to Gram's house to visit Julie's family. Esteban, who lives in Los Angeles, was in town shooting a documentary. Gram had made her famous "stack cookies" and homemade ice cream...YUM!!!
Sunday morning we had breakfast at one of our favorite restaurants, Weck's. Inspired by Mimi, who does a food blog; I tried to take a photo of my delicious
green chili/chicken breakfast burrito. Just know that the burrito was way better than the photo. I guess photo- graphing food is an art I have yet to learn.
Before heading back to Alamosa, we met Julie's friend, Jerry, at Starbucks. I can't believe I didn't take a photo...next time Jer!
